Its crazy how a group of educated Ghanaians have come together to form a group that has taken the culture in regards to entertainment to the next level currently in the United States. On March 4th, 2016 we celebrated Ghana Independence bringing well over 1500 plus people to a prime location in New York City called Stage 48 but the question remained could we pull it off again with no significance or a special holiday.
We prove time and time again with our visual creativity how dope our culture is which has attracted African Americans and others to want to know more of our culture by even wearing the garments and listening to our music. We approached the next event with an all white theme as we all know africans have the best skin and our color with a touch of white is just truly immaculate. We shot a promotional commercial for social network for the event that ended up going viral to the likes of Steve Harvey’s wife. The buzz became so crazy that people wanted to know the song we used for the video.. TAKEOVER.. by Kwamz and Flava. Through songs and dance with these huge events, Ghanaians from London to us now actually getting the artists to perform at the event. We all like a good ending to a story but we need to read the pages that lead up to it.
All odds were against us, Hot 97 summer jam which basically shuts down New York, New Jersey, Philly and other parts of the east coast was going down the same day, weather reports were showing thunderstorms and one thing people hate and make them second guess attending an event is to have their outfit drenched. Amidst all the odds we were triumphant!! Once again over 1500 beautiful people dressed in all white attended Ivory2k16 and from the feedback we have been getting since after Sunday June 5th its evident that this conglomerate as we call ourselves the Big5 is definitely a force to be reckoned with in this entertainment industry.
Our mission is to build awareness of our culture through song and dance through these huge events we have been putting together. We have not just become representatives of the Ghanaian community but the continent of Africa as a whole. We plan to continue exploring our talents as we know theres no limit to what we can do. Power is definitely in numbers and the BIG 5 is just that so stay tuned for our next story but in the meantime take a look at the experience yourself….
We are gearing up for our second annual African attire day party called Best of Africa 2k16. Last years event was more of an introduction where we focused on dashikis so our goal this year is to definitely kick it up a notch with the fits. We contacted dope designer Kira Nacole to feature her amazing African print inspired line along with beautiful models from Kenya, Guinea, Ethiopia and Ghana. We did our best to involve talent from different parts of the continent and as a result the finished product after the promotional shoot was simply astonishing. Blogs, online magazines and people all over social media have been reposting and coming up with captions like… “A moment of silence”… “Slay Gawds”… The quotes go on and on. We also had the opportunity to work with rising talent from Guinea Sira who was just featured in a music video with Jcole and his artist Fiendbassy of Dreamville. Our goal for this promotional shoot was to show the Best of Africa through beauty and fashion and with the immense positive feedback we did just that. With all this being said get inspired, look for your outfits now because Sunday July 17th at Orbit New York in Manhattan from 4pm-11pm we celebrate the greatness of our continent through song and dance so be there!!
